Welcome to another edition of On Watch. I am feeling so energized after a week in Vancouver where we held our Annual General Meeting, participated in our first MIAC meeting, and attended MariTech2023. For the AGM, again, I want to thank our board members for steering us through a year where we all emerged out of the global pandemic. I also want to give a huge and heartfelt thank you to our AGM sponsors: Duke Marine Technical Services, Genoa Design International, Glamox, Nauticomp and the Diversity Development Network of Canada. As I write this, we are in the midst of one of the largest Canadian federal public service strikes in history, with 155,000 employees in a legal strike position picketing across the country. With the potential of picket lines interrupting the work of ports, we hope that this labour unrest is resolved quickly. I am cognizant that some of these striking employees are ship’s crews, and we all hope that renewed collective agreements can be resolved at the negotiating table with fair and reasonable deals.

As you may have noticed, our job board is now self-serve and far less expensive! You are now able to post opportunities online without having to coordinate it with anyone. And due to that change, we are now able to reduce the cost to $49 per job per month for members and $99 for non-members. Please give it a try and let us know of any feedback. We are here to help.
