Hello all,

Welcome to another edition of On Watch. It’s hard to believe when snow still covers our front yards that Spring is just around the corner, but surely the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway for navigation brings us hope of better weather.

This edition features another Québec-based woman in the marine sector, Triode’s Amélie Normandin, who speaks of the project management support that she and her colleagues provide Canada’s yards when they need it most. Part of a small, close-knit team, Amélie, like so many others in the supply chain across the country, is thriving. We are very pleased to highlight the many innovations of our members. We are pleased to welcome several new members. Graphite Innovation and Technologies Inc., provider of Canada’s leading marine coatings, Siemens Canada Limited Maritime,  who provide electrification, automation and digitization solutions, and Gaspé-based shipyard Chantier Naval Forillon, specializing in the manufacture and repair of vessels of up to 800 tonnes. We are also pleased to have partnered with Blue Sky Maritime Coalition which is bringing people together for a cleaner future. 

As you may have noticed, our job board is now self-serve and far less expensive! You are now able to post opportunities online without having to coordinate it with anyone. And due to that change, we are now able to reduce the cost to $49 per job per month for members and $99 for non-members. Please give it a try and let us know of any feedback. We are here to help. If you are reading this for the first time thanks to it being passed along to you, you are welcome to sign up for future editions here –  it’s free and we never share your emails with anyone. We publish our newsletter every two weeks and bring you news, procurement opportunities and features that pertain to our sector. Triode is a small Québec-based engineering and project management firm that supports companies tackling big projects with specialized product and process development. The Triode team brings a wide array of experiences to the table, from a variety of industries. As a fully Canadian company working on Canadian shipbuilding projects with yards like Davie, Groupe Océan, Forillon and others in the Maritimes, Triode is looking forward to some exciting years to come. Given the investments governments are making in shipbuilding, there are a lot of new projects to support.

What makes Triode unique is that the team seamlessly integrates into the client team and becomes an extension of the project management office. In a boom-and-bust industry like shipbuilding, having that expertise when needed most is an invaluable service. Triode fills the niche by helping companies when there is an overflow of work, and they require expertise in project management.

One of Triode’s project managers, Amélie Normandin, speaks of the excitement of working on large shipbuilding projects. The work, she says, “Is high volume and very quick and you have to be extremely focussed. There is so much new in terms of innovation and technology, especially green technology and emissions reduction. We are seeing the crossover from vehicle manufacturing to ship building now.”

Triode offers an exceptionally collaborative and friendly work environment, one that has kept Amélie there for nine years. For someone who thrives on new experiences, change and a wide variety of projects, the opportunities are compelling. The close-knit team also has a lot of fun together, as Amélie attests, and the company truly values and respects its employees. Triode offers interesting work for a Québec-trained mechanical engineer like Amélie, which she appreciates greatly.

As a new member of CMISA, Amélie notes that it is very positive for Triode to connect with large and small shipbuilders, and to have everyone at the same table. The visibility and connection are invaluable. We know that we will see a lot more of Amélie and the Triode team in the years ahead!
