From Colin's Desk

Welcome to another edition of On Watch! This week might be a little thin in some parts as we are all in the thick of show season and this week finds many of us attending either DefSec or the inaugural Imagine Marine events. We have all gotten used to the virtual thing but there really is nothing like meeting people in person. Naval Quebec was last month, ACADA is prominent here in Halifax this week, ABCMI has their event next month – there are all sorts of excellent opportunities taking place across the country to make those oh-so-critical connections.

With that in mind, in lieu of a regular Spotlight this week, we are simply presenting a list of some key events that you should be considering this fall. It’s by no means exhaustive – please check out the CMISA website for more ideas – but it lists a few that you should at least be aware of. Next edition we’ll return to highlighting our members and their teams.

Member Spotlights are one way that we focus on telling stories about our members and increasing their visibility. If anyone reading this is not a member or knows of someone who would like to be a member, please join here.

I hope you enjoy this edition of On Watch with news from across our sector, both here and abroad, procurement opportunities, events and more. And I hope to see you at the shows!

All the best!

HMCS Sackville

HMCS Sackville is the last surviving WWII corvette, and she needs your financial support to keep her afloat. These “cheap and nasties” were born out of a need to defend convoys from the German U-boat threat. Like their French naval predecessors, Canadian corvettes were built on an old single-hulled whaler design. We re-plated over the original steel in 2020, however Sackville requires a new hull to remain in the water for posterity.
