The Role

What is the role?

BMT Canada is recruiting for a Project Management Specialist to join our experienced team to professionally and efficiently support the Design and Engineering Services (DES) team to manage their activities and the delivery of projects within the scope of BMT Canada’s market area. This role may include a long-term (6-9 month) deployment to one of our overseas client sites.

The successful candidate will support the DES projects through the following activities:  

• Proactively interact with clients, develop a thorough understanding of their needs, and work to meet expectation

• Determine the resource requirements for undertaking work

• Negotiate resources with other project managers/program managers to support parallel projects/programs

• Manage work allocations day-to-day or as required

• Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with the project statement of requirements and is checked in accordance with the relevant project and/or BMT Quality Procedure

• Complete tasks to meet specified objectives within timescale and budget

• Confirm work performed and time recording as needed to ensure project success

• Assemble internal and external monthly reports, as requested

• Contribute to an environment of project performance excellence

• Contribute to a culture of operational and technical excellence

• Coach, mentor and support the development of staff under their line management

• Maintain professional currency in areas of expertise agreed with the Program Services Engineering Manager

What are we looking for?

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible team members, who possess the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

• 10 years work experience in project teams with 3 years in a role of project manager for maritime engineering projects

• Engineering degree in a maritime engineering related discipline

• Experience working in the Defense industry, preferable shipbuilding, or ship repair environment

• Proficient user of Microsoft 365 suite of projects (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Task Boards, Teams)

• Ability to manage and lead peers without direct authority

• Ability to influence and earn the respect of clients

• Ability to obtain a Canadian Security Clearance

A Project Management professional certification or progressing towards certification is desired as well as a willingness and ability to be deployed long-term (6-9 Months) to one of our overseas client sites.
